Artist Lab — Adelaide
Write Your Songs. Find Your Voice. Become the Artist You Already Are.
8 weeks of 1:1 artist development mentorship in Adelaide — working directly with active professional artists to write, record, and release your first original song.
What Is Artist Lab?
Artist Lab is one of three streams inside AAI's signature 8-week mentorship program, Launch Lab.
Complete your Launch Lab Project — a recorded original song, written by you across the eight weeks and produced to mix-ready standard by an active AAI producer in two dedicated studio sessions.
Built for Solo Artists
Designed for vocalists, songwriters, and performers who want to write original music and develop their creative identity.
No Production Skills Needed
You don't need to be a DJ or music producer. You just need to have something to say and want help saying it.
Every Skill Has a Purpose
Everything you learn connects directly to your song. You always know why you are learning what you are learning.
What You'll Learn
Across 8 weeks of weekly 1:1 sessions you'll develop the skills, confidence, and creative identity to function as a working artist — not just someone who makes music at home.
Songwriting Craft
Song structure, hooks, verse and chorus development, lyric writing frameworks, and how to finish what you start.
Finding Your Lyrical Voice
The difference between writing from experience, imagination, and character. How to write something only you could write.
Melody Development
How melody and lyric work together, and how to write a vocal line that feels inevitable rather than forced.
Songwriting Tools
How to use Splice and other creative tools to source production references and writing catalysts. A beat is a canvas — the song you write over it is still entirely yours.
Production Language
The vocabulary you need to communicate creatively and professionally with producers. What arrangement, layers, drop, top line, stems, and references actually mean in practice.
Working With a Producer
Two dedicated sessions with an active AAI producer, co-creating your LLP from demo to mix-ready. The most important collaboration skill a modern artist can develop.
Recording Skills
Mic technique, vocal performance, take direction, and what it feels like to record in a professional studio environment.
Artist Identity and Branding
Who you are as an artist, what world your music lives in, and how to translate that into a bio, visual identity, and social presence.
The Modern Independent Artist Toolkit
Streaming platforms, social media for artists, playlist pitching basics, and how independent artists actually build careers today.
Your Launch Lab Project
By the end of Artist Lab you will have completed a recorded original song — your LLP — produced to mix-ready standard by an active AAI producer.
This isn't a demo recorded on your phone. It's a real piece of music — your words, your melody, your story — captured and produced in a professional studio environment by someone who does this for a living.
You'll also leave with your artist identity mapped, your bio written, your visual direction established, and a clear picture of what your next step as an artist looks like.
- A recorded original song produced to mix-ready standard
- Two dedicated studio sessions with an active producer
- Your artist identity and visual direction
- A professional bio ready to use
- A clear plan for your next step as an artist
The Producer Sessions
In weeks five and six of Artist Lab, your regular mentoring sessions are replaced by two dedicated producer sessions with an active AAI producer.
You arrive with a finished song and a creative brief you've prepared with Caroline. The producer responds to your brief, you agree on a direction together, and then you co-create the production for your LLP in real time — making real creative decisions about sounds, arrangement, energy, and vibe. In session six you record your final vocal and the track is brought to mix-ready state.
This is not a lesson about how production works. It's a genuine artist-producer collaboration — one of the most important professional experiences a developing artist can have. And it happens inside your eight weeks, included in your Launch Lab investment.
Producer Session One
Arrive with your finished song and creative brief. Agree on direction and co-create the production in real time.
Producer Session Two
Record your final vocal. The track is refined and brought to mix-ready state.
Your Launch Lab Project
A professionally produced original song — your words, your melody, your story.
Your Mentors
Artist Lab is led by Caroline Tucker across six sessions, with two dedicated producer sessions delivered by Chris Low or Tom Calvett depending on your genre and goals.
![]() | Caroline Tucker Artist Development Lead Caroline is an internationally touring DJ, live performer, vocalist, and songwriter who has performed at Boiler Room London, Fusion Festival, Rainbow Serpent, and Splendour in the Grass. She has also spent years facilitating artist engagement programs for youth groups and NDIS participants. Caroline brings genuine star power and real warmth — the kind of mentor who makes you feel like your creative vision matters, because to her, it genuinely does. |
![]() | Chris Low Producer Sessions Chris is a versatile producer and DJ with over a decade of industry experience, multiple Adelaide residencies, interstate shows, and a radio residency. In the producer sessions Chris brings his production expertise to your song — responding to your brief, collaborating on your sound, and helping you capture a vocal performance you are genuinely proud of. |
![]() | Tom Calvett Producer Sessions Tom is one half of internationally touring Drum and Bass duo V O E, a Sony Music composer, and a sound designer whose sample packs have charted on Splice. Is Artist Lab Right For You?
Artist Lab is right for you if you are a vocalist, songwriter, or performer who wants to write and record original music, develop a clear creative identity, and understand how to work professionally in the modern music industry.
It is also right for you if you have songs or ideas floating around that you have never known how to develop or finish, or if you have always wanted to record something but haven't known where to start.
It is particularly well suited to artists who see themselves working in the singer-songwriter or vocalist-with-producer model — writing and performing their own music while collaborating with producers on the sound.
Not sure if Artist Lab is the right fit? The Creative Clarity Call will tell us both everything we need to know.
What Students Say
"At the end of the course, I had my song — mixed and mastered, ready for release."
I had a poem I'd been wanting to turn into a song for 24 years. Dylan and Ant are amazingly talented and have a very good teaching style. They are friendly, gentle, patient, and go above and beyond. The value I got out of this course goes far beyond any money amount. It is priceless.
— Jenny Molan
"I have created and produced music I am genuinely proud of."
I had a fantastic time doing the Music Production course at AAI. I've learned so much from the wonderfully talented team here, and as a result of their support and enthusiasm, I'm producing music I'm genuinely proud of.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be able to sing well to join Artist Lab?
No. Artist Lab is about developing your voice and your craft, not about already having a perfect voice. Caroline works with you from wherever you are. Authenticity matters more than technical perfection at this stage.
Do I need to play an instrument?
No. Many artists in the modern music industry write and perform without playing an instrument. If you do play, that's a great asset we'll incorporate into your LLP. If you don't, we use tools like Splice and YouTube to generate production references for you to write over.
Do I need to have written songs before?
No prior songwriting experience is needed. The program is designed to develop your songwriting from wherever you're starting — whether that's a blank page or a folder full of unfinished ideas.
What does the producer collaboration actually involve?
In sessions five and six your regular mentoring is replaced by two dedicated sessions with an active AAI producer. You bring a finished song and a creative brief. The producer responds to your vision and you co-create the production together in real time. In session six you record your final vocal and the track is brought to mix-ready state.
What is a mix-ready track?
A mix-ready track is a fully produced recording that is ready to be sent to a mixing engineer for final polish before release. It is a professional-quality deliverable — not a rough demo. If you want to take it further, AAI Recording Studio offers mixing and mastering services as a natural next step.
What happens after the 8 weeks?
We help you plan your next step at your final session — whether that's mixing and mastering your LLP through AAI Recording Studio, developing your release strategy, advancing your songwriting through Amp Lab, or continuing to build your artist presence.
What if I'm not sure whether Artist Lab or Music Production Lab is right for me?
The Creative Clarity Call is designed to answer exactly that question. If you want to write and perform your own music and work with producers, Artist Lab is likely your path. If you want to make beats and produce music yourself, Music Production Lab is probably the better fit. We'll figure it out together on the call.
