Music Production Lab is one of three streams inside AAI's signature 8-week mentorship program, Launch Lab.
Complete your Launch Lab Project — a mix-ready original track that you write, arrange, design, and finish across eight weeks.
Every Skill Has a Purpose
Everything you learn connects directly to your track. You always know why you are learning what you are learning.
Progress You Can Hear
Unlike tutorials that go nowhere, every single session moves your track forward. Progress is visible every week.
Built for Finishers
Especially effective for people who have tried courses before but struggled to finish anything. This time you will.
What You'll Learn
Across 8 weeks of weekly 1:1 sessions you'll develop a genuine foundation in music production — not just theory, but applied skills built into a real track.
Your DAW Inside Out
Ableton Live or Logic Pro, whichever suits your setup and goals. We'll help you work out which is right for you on your Clarity Call.
Beat Making and Rhythm
MIDI programming, groove, structure, and how to make a beat that actually feels right.
Melody, Chords, and Harmony
Taught only as far as serves your music. If theory excites you we go deeper. If it doesn't, we show you how to navigate around it.
Arrangement
How a track moves from a loop to a full song. Structure, energy, and knowing when to add and when to take away.
Sound Design and Synthesis
Using Vital to shape and create your own sounds, not just browse presets.
The Big 4
Compression, EQ, Delay, and Reverb applied practically to your track. No abstract explanations — just what each one does to your music and when to use it.
Recording and Audio Editing
How to record audio parts into your track, edit them cleanly, and integrate them with your MIDI.
Creative Production Tools
How to use tools like Splice and sampling to accelerate and enhance your creative process and output.
A Personalised Workflow
Built around how your brain actually works. Because not every producer thinks or creates the same way.
Your Launch Lab Project
By the end of Music Production Lab you will have completed a mix-ready original track — your LLP.
This isn't a practice exercise. It's a real piece of music you made, from the first MIDI note to the final arrangement, using skills you've developed across eight weeks of focused mentorship. You'll also leave knowing exactly what comes next — whether that's advanced production, mixing and mastering your track through AAI Recording Studio, or developing further as an artist.
- A mix-ready original track
- A working knowledge of your DAW
- A personalised production workflow
- A clear path for what comes next

Your Mentors
Music Production Lab sessions are delivered by AAI's active professional production team — Ben Cosford, Tom Calvett, and Andrew Armitage for Ableton Live, and Chris Low for Logic Pro — matched to your DAW and goals.
![]() ![]() | Ben Cosford Director & Ableton Live Mentor Ben is AAI's Director and an Ableton mentor with 20 years of teaching experience. As a working musician, actor, and creative coach he brings a rare combination of technical depth and genuine human understanding to every session. He built AAI around the belief that the right environment changes everything — especially for creatives whose brains don't thrive in traditional learning settings. |
| Tom Calvett Production & Ableton Live Mentor Tom is one half of internationally touring Drum & Bass duo V O E, a Sony Music composer, and a sound designer whose sample packs have charted on Splice. He brings rare technical depth and a gift for understanding exactly what a student is going for — and helping them get there. | ![]() ![]() |

His Logic Pro sessions carry the same playful, patient energy that makes even the most complex concepts feel genuinely approachable. |
| Andrew Armitage Production & Ableton Live Mentor Andrew is a Martin Garrix Academy graduate — mentored directly by Martin Garrix — who has since played Tomorrowland Belgium, Ultra Tokyo's Mainstage, and racked up over 20 million streams worldwide. His workflow is entirely Ableton-built, shaped by Academy training centred on real-world release standards. In session, that means you're learning the exact production and arrangement techniques currently being used on the world's biggest stages — not theory. | ![]() ![]() |

What Students Say
"I've gained skills I never thought I could."
Chris has been an excellent mentor for me. He's patient, extremely knowledgeable and supportive. Launch Lab has given me tools, skills and knowledge to be able to create on my own. I've gained skills I never thought I could before joining Launch Lab. Would highly recommend to anybody wanting to gain knowledge or skills, or even just for the fun of creating.
— Benny Paues
"I created and produced a song from scratch."
With Ben's help, I created and produced a song from scratch, which is amazing. It's a great way to get one on one training in production with Ableton that's really tailored to the way you learn, your interests, and how you approach music generally.
— Alex
"The right learning environment makes a world of difference."
I've gained practical skills and the confidence to produce my own music from home, but I've also grown creatively and formed connections that will help shape me as a producer and musician for life. As a neurodivergent individual living with AuDHD, the right learning environment makes a world of difference, and I really appreciated Ben's ability to adapt the learning approach to suit my needs and strengths to help me thrive.
— Sarah Markham
"I've learned to not overthink making a track — just do what sounds good to you."
I was welcomed openly to AAI regardless of my skill level and it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience. I've learned how to use Ableton, handy tips and tricks. Everyone I've met including Ben and Chris have been so supportive and encouraging, and I was extremely pleased to find they are flexible with schedules for those of us that work full time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which DAW do you teach?
Ableton Live and Logic Pro. Both are industry-standard tools and we teach them equally well. The right choice largely comes down to what you own. Logic Pro runs exclusively on Mac, while Ableton Live runs on both Mac and Windows — making it the natural choice if you're on a PC, but equally at home on a Mac. We'll help you work out which suits your setup and goals on your Clarity Call.
Do I need any equipment before I start?
We'll discuss this on your Clarity Call. You'll need a laptop with your DAW installed. Audio interface, MIDI controller, and monitors are helpful but not essential to begin — we have everything in the studio for your sessions.
Do I need music theory knowledge?
No. We teach theory only as far as it serves your music. If it interests you we go deeper. If it doesn't, we show you how to get around it using your DAW.
Will I actually finish a track?
Yes. The entire program is built around completing your Launch Lab Project — a mix-ready original track. Finishing is the point.
What happens after the 8 weeks?
We help you plan your next step at your final session — whether that's advanced production modules through Amp Lab, mixing and mastering your track through AAI Recording Studio, or continuing to develop as an artist.
